Mingsi Ma (she/her) is a passionate arts writer, critic, and Cultural Industry professional. Previously, she lived in Chicago and New York City, and now happily resides in Pittsburgh. She takes pride in her work and firmly believes in the profound impact of the arts on empowering individuals, uniting communities, and creating an inclusive society.
She writes about performances, music, and exhibitions as her way to support the arts scene and foster a healthy ecosystem where great works get highlighted and feedback flows. She has been named to the inaugural cohort of Critical Insight Fellows with the Pittsburgh Public Theater and American Theatre Magazine.
Her writing and show reviews can be seen on onStage Pittsburgh and Petrichor. Recently, her theater review on artist Edisa Week’s 3 RITES: Liberty was highlighted in Petrichor’s first print anthology Pages from Petrichor 2023-2024: Essays on art and life in Pittsburgh.
Mingsi currently works for a local theater in Pittsburgh as an arts administrator and marketer, where she collaboratively envisions, actively contributes to, and effectively implements the theater’s marketing and press strategies. From brochure design that goes to over 10k households, large-scale PR campaigns targeting regional and national press, outdoor advertising, to social media shoutouts for artists, she creates a 360-degree experience that draws audiences through the door and elevates artists' presence.
Mingsi earned her B.M. in Music Business with a double major in East Asian Studies from New York University, and an M.A. in the Humanities, focusing on Ethnomusicology and East Asian Languages and Civilizations, from The University of Chicago.
Mingsi is quadrilingual, fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Japanese. She has been fortunate to live in multiple countries, embracing the experience of being a global citizen and bringing an open mindset to her work. She is also a talented amateur pianist.
